Once again, there is further talk of a potential return of Jaromir Jagr to the Penguins despite a two year contract to play in Russia’s Kontinental Hockey League.
Rob Rossi reports that Jagr has commented, “I would just go there and play for them for the minimum salary,” and also, “I owe Mario so much because he taught me how to play hockey. If he would want me to, I would come back for the minimum and try to help him. But he doesn’t need me. He has good players there.”
Some Pens fans (and the media) really think that the problem is that there is no elite winger to play along side of His Sidness and with the team’s recent problems and lack of wins this talk is only getting more intense. I still maintain that this roster, as it stands, is better than last years team. But they have to start playing basic hockey and as a team. The “elite” scoring winger like Jagr be damned.
Would it be nice to have a talent like Jagr on Sid’s line? Sure. Do we “need” him to win? Nope.
